What most visitors never realize is that this beautiful park was built directly on top of Denver’s first cemetery. In the 1890s the city decided to convert the neglected graveyard into a public park. The work was stopped amid public scandal, the open graves were simply filled in, and the park was created on top of the dead.
Today an estimated 2,000–3,000 bodies still rest beneath the grass and pathways.

Cheesman Park’s open lawns, shadowed trees, and eerie neoclassical pavilion—built directly over Denver’s forgotten first cemetery, where thousands of disturbed remains still lie beneath the grass. Guests meet with a tour guide who walks them around the haunted grounds while hearing chilling accounts of restless spirits, cold spots, vanishing figures, and the scandalous 1890s desecration that left the dead unquiet. You will be given an app with ghost hunting tools (EMF detection, EVP, thermal/night vision camera) to see if any wandering spirits decide to follow the tour.
